Columbus police and Safe Kids GA host bike rodeo

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Children got a chance to show off their bike riding skills and safety Friday in Columbus.

Columbus Police and Safe Kids Georgia held a bike rodeo. There were stations to teach about the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike and bikes were also checked to make sure they were safe and not broken in any way.

"School's out and we know more kids are going to be on bicycles this time of the year. They're going to be riding just not in driveways, they're going to go right on the roads and on sidewalks. We're trying to make sure that they have a bicycle helmet. We know accidents are going to happen so if they have a bicycle helmet on, that will at least prevent a head injury," said Cpl. Robert Greene with the Columbus Police Department.

There have been more than 20 bike rodeos around Columbus so far.
