COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Miss Georgia Pageant is celebrating 74 years this week.

Ninety women from across the state will compete for academic scholarships and the title of Miss Georgia 2018 and Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen 2018.

The contestants set aside time for bonding at Stars and Strikes in Columbus Tuesday afternoon. Contestants say it's more than the competition for them.

"I absolutely love it. We all are friends. We all become friends during the week. We all know what one another goes through especially with the pageant. So, this is an awesome opportunity for us to reach out to our sponsors to be a part of the community and come together to have a great time before the competition," says Chari Guzman, a Miss Georgia contestant.

Contestants say they don't take for granted the friendships and connections they continue to make this week among each other and throughout the Chattahoochee Valley.
