Military Matters: Ft. Benning prepares for massive Independence Celebration as part of centennial year

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning is gearing up for its annual Independence Celebration, which this year is billed as a Centennial Celebration, in recognition of their 100th birthday.

There are several free activities available.

Concerts with Big and Rich, featuring Cowboy Troy, Three Doors Down and Flo Rida can all be seen at no cost whatsoever.

Shows, games and the incredible fireworks show that wraps it all up are free as well.

Those interested in attending should be aware that food is not free, as more than 50 vendors will be on site taking tokens for what you purchase.

German, Chinese, Italian, Polish and French cuisine are some of the non-traditional dishes that will be available.

Other, more traditional fan-favorite foods that will be available for purchase include barbecue, funnel cakes and, for the first time ever, gator ribs.

Attendees will also be refunded for any unused tokens you have left at the end of the night.
