Historic Columbus celebrates 10th annual Box City Summer Art Camp

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Historic Columbus hosted its 10th annual Box City Summer Art Camp awards ceremony Thursday.

Box City gives a hands-on approach to community planning and design. It also provides an understanding of the development of communities and their present problems and successes.

The curriculum allows students to make their own buildings from cardboard boxes and create their own cities.

"It's a creative way to learn about architecture, city planning, and their neighborhoods. We had a city counselor come this week and tell them what it takes to run a city," said Callie Hecht with Historic Columbus.

These camps are made possible by the Wynnton Arts Academy, National Society of the Colonial Dames in America Columbus Town Committee, the Kiwanis Club of Columbus, and the Ice Cream Girl.
