ROCK, GA (WTVM) – Steve Harvey made a stop at the Rock Ranch in Rock, GA to kick off his annual mentoring program.
The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program provides young men with more than 200 fatherless teenage boys from around the nation.
"My mother was an outstanding parent, but it takes a man to raise a man. I needed that male role model that male push, that male influence in my life and I really didn't have it, it was a void in my life," said Kendell McGee, said Junior Counselor.
More than 200 fatherless teenage boys from around the nation came to Rock Ranch for a weekend of motivational, educational, and mentorship workshops.
"The big part is all these men who volunteer to come here who are fathers, who take time out from their own children to try to pull something into some boys that don't belong to them," said Steve Harvey.
Although this is the 10th annual year, this is the second year Mr. Harvey decided to move the camp to the Rock Ranch due to all the amenities they have to offer.
From a giant tent filled with cots to a barbershop. Mr. Harvey wants these young men to have a full experience of manhood.
"We got to change what some of these young men what some of these young guys think manhood is because they are being raised by YouTube and videos and that doesn't have anything to do with manhood. It's not about how many chains you got or the rims on your car. Real men love God, real men honor women, real men obey the law, real men go to church, real men go to work every day, real men take care of their kids."- said Steve Harvey
Along with the young men camp, Mr. Harvey also provided a single mothers enrichment summit over in Atlanta.
The event started on Thursday, June 14 and will end on Sunday, June 17.
The Rock Ranch farm is located approximately an hour from Columbus.
