COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The staff at Piedmont Columbus Regional stepped in to make sure one 16-year-old had a wonderful 'Sweet 16" after her family recently experienced a tough time.
Kirsten Burton's mother was recently hospitalized after being injured in a house fire. Kirsten and her mother escaped the fire by jumping from a second-floor bedroom window. Kirsten's mother broke both of her legs and their house was a total loss.
Hospital staff and the Patient Experience Team threw a surprise birthday party for Kirsten in her mother's hospital room on the 6th floor of the Midtown Campus Friday afternoon.
Publix donated a birthday cake and gift cards were donated by Stars and Strikes and 5 Fourteen Hair Salon. Balloons and crowns were provided by Case Management and a gift basket was given by Trauma.
"My care here has been wonderful on 6 Main. The staff here has helped me cope with what happened. The birthday surprise has definitely brightened my day. I'm very thankful for the Piedmont Columbus Regional staff," said Kira Burton, mother of Kirsten.
The hospital says Kirsten has been by her mother's side every step of the way and stays at the hospital for long periods of time to check up on her.
The birthday party served as a way for Piedmont Columbus Regional to show its concern for all patients regardless of their condition or injury.
