UPDATE: Columbus Government Center gives updates on closure following water main breakage

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Government Center Tower will remain closed through Friday, June 22, 2018, due to the water main breakage causing courtrooms and offices to flood rendering the building not useable.

City Maintenance and ServPro are making great progress with removing standing water and cleaning up the damage.

The Government Center Tower – Ground Floor through Eighth Floor – will re-open on Monday, June 25, 2018, for normal business hours/normal operations for employees and the public.  The parking garage will be open for employees with designated parking spaces.

Employees and the public will be restricted from access to floors nine through eleven until further notice.

Elevators to the right/east side will be limited to city maintenance workers, ServPro and other vendors involved in the cleanup.

The normal security checkpoint for the Government Center Tower on the 9th Street side of the government center will be closed. A new security checkpoint for public access to the government center has been established in the west wing (located on 2nd Avenue between 9th and 10th Street). All public traffic will enter and be screened through security at this location.

The 9th Street parking lot is being used as a mobile command center for the sheriff's department.
