2 men charged in moonshine and stolen property case in Hurtsboro

RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Two men have been charged in large moonshine and stolen property case in Hurtsboro.

Manuel Eugene Davis Sr., 52, and Manuel Eugene Davis Jr., 31, are charged with first -degree receiving stolen property (trailer) and altering a VIN ( trailer). In addition to these charges, Davis Sr. is charged with fourth-degree receiving stolen property (pistol), certain persons forbidden to access a pistol, and possession of still/illegally manufactured alcoholic beverage.

The Russell County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Friday in reference to the case.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor says they confiscated more than 500 gallons of completed moonshine valuing more than $30,000 from a location in the 300 block of  Rutherford Road.  Officials also destroyed at 27 drum still.

Officials seized the following items:

  • Two pistols (one stolen from Montgomery)
  • Four shotguns
  • Two rifles
  • $4,378 in U.S. currency
  • Seven vehicles
  • 11 trailers of various sizes
  • John Deere 5350 tractor with brush hog
  • Ford Mustang drag race car
