COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus police arrested a man for attempting to rape a woman after two delivery men came to the rescue at a Circle K on Fort Benning Road, according to the police report.

The incident happened early Tuesday around 4:30 a.m. when the victim confronted the suspect about hanging out and loitering inside the store, and that’s when the suspect grabbed the victim by her wrists and pulled her into the restroom.

While the victim was being held down by the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Joshua Lias, two delivery men from The McLane Company entered the store and discovered Lias on top of the victim.

That’s when they grabbed Lias and held him down until police arrived.

Columbus police reviewed the surveillance video and based on the footage and testimonies from the victim and witnesses, Joshua Lias was arrested.

He was charged with false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit rape.

Lias is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on Wednesday, July 11 at 8 a.m.
