HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - A new principal has been appointed to Harris County Carver Middle School (HCCMS) in Hamilton, Georgia.
The school district approved the appointment of Melissa D. Hayes on Tuesday, July 10. Prior to her new role, Hayes was HCCMS's assistant principal during the previous academic year. Hayes is filling the position previously held by Stacey Carlisle who was promoted to assistant superintendent of human resources.
She's also served the district at Park Elementary as a teacher for 20 years for grades third through fifth and as an assistant principal.
"When making my departure through the doors of Harris County High School with my high school diploma, it was my dream that I would give back to the educational community that gave so much to me and my family," said Hayes. "Teaching in this community has given me so much joy. It is with great pride that I continue my journey to serve Harris County as an educational leader."
Hayes earned a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education from Fort Valley State University. She also earned a Master of Science in Elementary Education and an Education Specialist degree in Elementary Education from Troy University. Additionally, Hayes obtained a second Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University.
The Harris County School District will resume classes for the 2018-2019 school year August 6.
