COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Piedmont Columbus Regional honored an EMT at its July First Friday Hero ceremony on Thursday.
Summer Knight with EMS Care Ambulance was honored for the action she took when responding to a car accident involving a mother and her young son who has autism.
At the crash scene, the boy was scared and would not let paramedics care for him. Knight helped calm the boy down so he could be treated and even rode in the back of the ambulance with him while in route to the hospital.
"It's just what we do every day, but it feels nice to be recognized," said Knight.
Piedmont Columbus Regional created to the First Friday Hero program in early 2017 to recognize first responders monthly who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
