COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - One lesser-known Columbus team may have recently lost their practice space, but they are getting ready to take on a much bigger one.

Thanks to fans of the Muscogee Roller Girls, the team is getting ready to take on the Columbus Civic Center.

The team has been around since 2012, but have been operating as a travel team while they look for a practice space.

Thanks to demand from fans and friends, the roller derby team has a bout in Columbus and they want the change to share their message that you can be an adult, a mom, a wife and an athlete.

"There's really just a lot of benefits to having us around I think you know we have all kinds of people from the community joining our team," says Muscogee Roller Girls President Liz "Jett Fuel" Wise. "Of course, we're all about empowering women, turning them from already the multiple roles they have as mom and wives, and now they're athletes."

Their upcoming bout will be Aug. 25 against the Panhandle United Roller Derby.

The Columbus Civic Center will open its doors at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 ahead of time and $20 on the day of the event.
