Law enforcement in Phenix City observed National Night Out with the community Tuesday night.
The community met Phenix City police face to face and was welcomed with free food and water.
"We want to let the public know that we are part of the community also and that our job is to serve and protect. They don't have to fear talking to us. We're always there with open ears and we're willing to listen," said Gail Green, assistant chief of police.
National Night Out serves as a police awareness event for the community and as a way of letting the public know that they don’t have to be afraid to talk to the police.
Phenix City’s National Night Out was held at the north and south precincts.
