Students at Berta Weathersbee Elementary School in LaGrange wore uniforms for the first time on Thursday.
Berta Weathersbee is the first and only school in Troup County to have school uniforms.
Students gathered in front of the school on the first day of class for a group photo.
Willie Cook, the school’s principal, said the uniforms bring pride and unity to the school and have each student on a level playing field.
“It helps us to concentrate on academics. Some kids feel like they may not be having that individualism, but we want to change that. We will come together like a football team,” said Cook.
Cook said there has been a significant decrease in student discipline since the uniform policy. He said he hopes other schools in the area will also adopt a uniform dress code.
