Scoliosis refers to a lateral or sideways curvature of the spine. It's a Idiopathic disease, meaning the cause is unknown. It can be detected at an early age in most schools through testing. It can appear as early as a child learns to walk, or in adolescence. Research has shown that 8 out of 10 scoliosis cases are young females.
Scoliosis develops slowly without pain or any other symptoms in its inital stages, and usually evolves during growth peaks. The lateral curvature of the spine can pinch nerves and cause problems in the entire body.
