Thousands Fill Civic Center To Honor World Champions

Eight-thousand fans packed into the Columbus Civic Center to welcome home our World Champions.  Heavy downpours right before the 6 PM ceremony didn't damper the spirits of those who turned out.

The Northern Little League All-Stars won the World Series Monday night by defeating a team from Japan by the score of 2 to 1.  On Saturday, Northern became U.S. Champions by overpowering a team from Beaverton, Oregon 7-3.

The team gathered at the Columbus Welcome Center for a parade into the city.  The 11 little leaguers rode in 11 separate Corvette's to the Civic Center.  The motorcade down Veterans Parkway was delayed by about 10 minutes because of a heavy thunderstorm moving through Columbus.

Hundred of fans lined Veterans Parkway  & braved the rain to catch a glimpse of the champs.  They held signs, waved and cheered as the motorcade made its way to the Civic Center.

Among those attending the celebration was former President Jimmy Carter, state senators and representatives, along with Columbus city leaders.

During the festivities, fans chanted U-S-A....and waved small American flags that were handed out.  Also, many in the crowd wore either Northern tee-shirts or anything in the team's light blue colors.  Signs, banners and streamers congratulating the teams were seen throughout the Civic Center.
