Cam Greathouse threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes, and a stubborn Shaw defense held Carver scoreless to lead the Raiders to a 16-14 victory over the Tigers in a GHSA Class AAA Semifinal showdown at the Georgia Dome on Friday.
Greathouse hit Kyle Griswould with a 10-yard scoring pass in the first quarter to give Shaw a 10-0 lead, then found Arsenio Williams on a 28-yard strike with 28 seconds remaining in the half to give the Raiders the lead for good at 16-14.
Carver had taken a 14-10 lead on a 58-yard halfback pass from Jarmon Fortson to Jarvis Jones in the second quarter. Fortson had caught a TD from Deron Furr in the first quarter to get the Tigers on the board.
The two teams met during the second week of the regular season. Carver defeated Shaw 14-9 in that first game, played on September 8.
Shaw advances to the state finals for the second time in school history. They will play Peach County, a 43-29 winner over Washington County in the other Class AAA semifinal.
Shaw won the GHSA Class AAAA championship in 2000.
