Continental Carbon Loses Appeal

Columbus has won another appeal against a Phenix City company accused of knowingly releasing carbon into the air.

City attorney Clifton Faye tells News Leader 9 that the U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld a ruling ordering Continental Carbon to pay millions of dollars in damages.

Faye says the city will get at least $570,000, plus punitive damages, but he doesn't know exactly how much that will be.

Several business owners were also awarded money in the appeal.   No word yet whether Continental Carbon will challenge this latest ruling.
