Senior Center Named for Late City Councilor

A local senior center has a new name in recognition of a city councilor who, some say, dedicated his life to the area.  What was the South Columbus Recreation and Senior Center now bears the name of a man who spent 20 years serving the district where it sits.

The renaming and dedication ceremony was held this morning at the recreation center off of Benning Drive.  Frank Chester's widow Joann was present for the honor along with other city and state leaders.

"And I think tears are going to come to my eyes, okay, to look at this sign and I look up in heaven and I know he's looking down and he's most most grateful.

Several elected officials spoke at the ceremony.  Many talked about how fitting it was to have the senior center named in Chester's honor, because of his unwavering commitment to growth in south Columbus and the entire city.

Some of the speakers told personal stories about how Chester had touched their lives.

Chester served on the Columbus City Council from 1979 to 1999, he passed away in 2005.
