Georgia Tax Offices Open Late Tuesday

The Georgia Department of Revenue's regional offices will remain open until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 to accept state personal income tax returns from last-minute filers.

"We have provided this service in previous years and it has proven to be popular with taxpayers," said Revenue Commissioner Bart Graham.

The Revenue Offices in Albany, Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Douglas, Macon, Rome, and Savannah will offer the extended hours.

Personnel at each office will accept a taxpayer's state return, accept payments, assist in requesting an extension, and answer tax-related questions.

The late hours are only for state tax returns.  Federal returns will still need to be postmarked by midnight Tuesday at the post office.

This year, taxpayers have until April 17 to file and pay, because the normal filing deadline day of April 15 falls on Sunday and April 16 is Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C.
