Life of Ma Rainey Celebrated

Saturday music lovers came together to celebrate the life and death of a blues legend.

"Her name was Gertrude Ma Rainey, and she could really sing the blues." sang Ed Cox of the Columbus Jazz Society.

The Columbus Jazz society held a special event at the recently-restored "Ma" Rainey House in Columbus.

Rainey is often called the "Mother of the Blues" for her contribution of more than 94 blues recordings in the early 20th century.

The Liberty Theater in downtown Columbus is also hosting a jazz performances this weekend in honor of Ma Rainey .
