Run with the Wind to Help Sumter Regional

May 7, 2007

Americus--  You can use your feet to help Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus rebuild after the storm.

All proceeds from the "Run With the Wind" 5-K run and 1-mile fun run will benefit Sumter Regional as it recovers from the March 1st tornado. Teen Miss Historic Southern Plains Shelley Fallon witnessed the devastation and wanted to do something to help out.

"I saw the devastation it did to our hospital and I knew how much it was going to affect my family with my Mom being an employee of the hospital and I really wanted to do something to help the community and make it a better situation," said Fallon.

So far, more than 70 runners and walkers have signed up and donors have pledged more than $10,000.  That exceeds their expectations. The run begins Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by the fun run at 9.

If you want to participate, just show up by 7 at the Georgia Southwestern Education Center and sign up. Registration is $20.
