Russell County schools now have a temporary leader, to replace their late superintendent. Superintendent Dr. Vivian Carter died Sunday, after suffering a stroke while speaking at a conference.
Dr. Carter was chosen as superintendent just six months ago, after an extensive search.
Thursday night, school board members unanimously chose Assistant Superintendent Lillian Baker to temporarily serve in Dr. Carter's place.
Baker says she hopes to carry out some of the plans Dr. Carter had for the school system. "It has been a loss for us because we really wanted to implement some of the plans she shared with us during her short tenure at Russell County. We're saddened by our loss. To her, children were always first," said Baker.
