Tommy Irvin, Georgia's Agriculture Commissioner is alerting consumers of metal in certain Sara Lee whole wheat products.
Sara Lee has issued a voluntary and precautionary recall on selected wheat bread products produced at the company's Meridian, Mississippi, bakery and sold at grocery retailers in the following areas.
The baked goods are sold in Mississippi, Alabama, western Georgia, southwestern Tennessee, southeastern Louisiana, the panhandle of Florida, as well as parts of Missouri and Arkansas.
The affected products may contain small pieces of metal.
Sara Lee is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in undertaking this voluntary recall.
The affected products are stamped "Best if purchased by" between the dates of July 25, 2007 and August 7, 2007 and include the code "222." This information can be found on the front of the bag. The products were sold in a variety of retail grocery and mass merchant retailers and include:
Only those products that include the code "222" on the packaging are included in this recall. These products should not be consumed and should be returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
The recall applies only to products listed above, which are produced in the company's Meridian, Mississippi bakery. The recall does not apply to any other Sara Lee bread brand, including all products sold under the Soft 'n Smooth label.
