Police Looking For Second Suspect in BTW Murder

August 10, 2007

Columbus Police have arrested a juvenile for the Wednesday night murder of 40 year-old Ronald Burrous.

Since the suspect is a minor, police are not releasing his name.  We do know that he will be charged as an adult.

Meanwhile, police are still are looking for a second suspect, 17 year-old Melvin Williams.

It's believed the two young men shot Burrous after a drug deal went bad at Booker T. Washington Apartments.

Police say a woman dropped Burrous off at the Medical Center around 10:15 Wednesday night. He later died from his injuries.

One woman, who didn't want to be identified, did say she heard the gunshots that may have killed Burrous.

"My daughter was driving and we were heading straight down and we heard the gunshots and we went on, we didn't see nothing, just heard gunshots," said the woman.

For the people who live at BTW, this shooting is just another example of how dangerous their neighborhood has become.

"You never know when you might get hit by a stray bullet or something like that," said the woman, "The police do what they can, they come out and respond to this area, but they just slip through."

Police say the woman who dropped Burrous off at the hospital isn't facing any charges.

Burrous was possibly from Box Springs, Georgia.

The juvenile suspect that's in custody is scheduled to appear in Recorders Court Saturday morning.
