Capital One Closes GreenPoint Mortgage

GreenPoint Mortgage, a unit of Capital One, is closing because its becoming more difficult to find money for loans to people with less than perfect credit.

Monday Capital One Financial released a statement saying it's closing it's wholesale mortgage business GreenPoint Mortgage and cutting nearly 2,000 jobs.

The Columbus office is only a service center for Capital One, but yet rumor has it, it's closing to.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported on its website that the closure includes an office in Alpharetta and Columbus, Georgia.

WTVM contacted the Capital One Corporate Office today.

Capital One spokesperson, Titiana Stead, says those allegations are false.

"Approximately 1,900 associates will be impacted by this closure with the vast majority of the positions being illeminated by the end of the year. Capital One will maintain it's servicing unit in Columbus, Georgia. Approximately 250 associates work at that site supporting various loans," added Stead.
