Columbus' Panasonic plant to layoff 250 workers

A spokesperson with the Panasonic Primary Battery Corporation tells News Leader Nine the company is laying off 250 employees.

Panasonic is closing the portion of its plant that makes alkaline batteries.

Company officials say the layoff will be gradual...with that portion of the plant closing in late March.

Panasonic says that laid off employees will receive severance packages.

About 220 workers will remain at the plant.
