Survey: Columbus Job Growth Likely

December 11, 2007

Columbus (WTVM) -- A new survey predicts a happy new year for job hunters in Columbus.

Manpower surveys employers across the country four times a year. The Columbus poll for the next three months shows a strong need for new workers -- with 30 percent of employers planning to add jobs.  Only 13 percent plan job cuts between January and March, while 54 percent plan no changes.

The "+17" net increase in corporate hiring is one of the strongest in Georgia.  Only Athens and Augusta top Columbus.  By comparison, ten percent of Albany companies plan layoffs in the next quarter, while none plan to add staff.

Manpower's nationwide survey indicates the best job prospects in early 2008 will be in construction, durable good manufacturing and services.
