Growing Worries for Aflac and the Imagination Station

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The relationship between Aflac and their daycare provider, the Growing Room, is on the ropes.

Aflac tells News Leader 9, they are re-evaluating their contract with the Growing Room Centers after two recent incidents at the Imagination Station, one of which happened just this week.

Neither the Growing Room nor Aflac will discuss specifics about what happened this week but a parent says their child was sent home with the wrong person from the Imagination Station.

That parent wants to share their story with News Leader 9 but has been advised by legal council not to.

The Growing Room declined an on camera interview but confirms that there was a situation on Wednesday in an official statement but says the child never left the premises.

The company says the proper pick-up procedure was followed that day and they are investigating the situation.

Aflac says they are investigating the matter as well

"There was some confusion at pick-up time and the Parents Council is investigating it at the moment and they'll come back with recommendations and a fuller understanding of the situation. And we're going to follow whatever the recommendations are that come down from the Parents Council," said Aflac Public Relations representative Laura Kane in a phone interview.

The incident comes on the heels of another incident a month ago when an employee at the Imagination Station was arrested and charged with abusing a child after she was allegedly caught on tape pulling a child across the room by his ears.

Aflac says they are taking all of this into consideration as well and says they are ultimately prepared to replace the daycare provider if necessary.

Aflac officials says their Parents Advisory Council will be reviewing video surveillance from Wednesday and will make a recommendation on whether or not Aflac should continue to work with the Growing Room.

No timeline for that decision has been set.

News Leader 9 will continue to bring you more information on this story as it becomes available to us.
