COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Family and friends gathered Monday afternoon at Fairview Baptist Church to celebrate the life of James David Baker.
Those who knew Baker closely called him David. They say Baker was a man who loved to help everyone. "He was a man of infectious laughter and humor. He was someone who never met a stranger," said Senior Pastor, Mike Yarbrough.
Baker was going to an appointment at the clinic Thursday afternoon, when the alleged gunman, 63-year-old Charles Johnston shot him in the parking lot of Doctor's Hospital.
Meanwhile, just down the street family and friends of Peter Wright met to remember the nurse, whose wife describes him as a caring man. "Pete was such a loving kind person. He was the kind of man you would want as your nurse," said Carla Wright Victim's Wife.
Wright was cremated. A flag was presented to Carla Wright Monday afternoon at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. It was for his four years of service in the U.S. Marines.
