Doctors Hospital Shooting: Last shooting victim is laid to rest

Apr. 1, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A memorial service was held at Striffler Hamby Mortuary for the hospital employee killed in last week's rampage.

Leslie Harris is the administrative assistant who was gunned down on the hospital's fifth floor last Thursday.

His service, follows the Monday funerals of David Baker and Peter Wright -- the other two shooting victims.

Les Harris will eventually be laid to rest in Florida.

Columbus Police now say the suspected killer possibly went after the wrong person in the shootings.

They say 63 year-old Charles Johnston showed up at Doctors Hospital looking for a nurse named "Pete", who Johnston said cared for his mother.

Co-workers say it is a case of mistaken identity and investigators contend Peter Wright never attended to Johnston's mother.

The suspected gunman pleaded not guilty in court in Monday, but reportedly confessed to the crime shortly after his arrest.
