Lawmakers Discuss What to Cover in Alabama Special Session

May 22, 2008

(WTVM)- Democrats in the Alabama Legislature are asking Governor Bob Riley to include a bill to exempt federal rebate checks from state taxes in his list of priorities for a special session. Riley must call the special session because the Senate failed to pass an education budget in its regular session that ended this week. Exempting the rebate checks from state taxes would save Alabama residents about $57-Million.  Governor Riley says he hasn't decided if the sepcial session will consider any issues other than the budget.
