Developing Story: Muscogee County Inmate Back in Custody

June 12, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WXTX) - Police say escaped inmate, Daniel Lee Grubb, has been taken into custody. He was arrested shortly after 7 pm.

Officials with the Muscogee County Prison say Daniel Lee Grubb was working a sanitation - garbage truck route at 52nd Street and Abbott Avenue when he escaped around 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

Sanitation workers say Grubbs ran down a nearby creek. Grubb is serving a 5-year sentence for drug charges. He is up for parole this September.

Three different units were called out to aid in this search. Officials used state search dogs and a helicopter to comb an area near Veterans Parkway and 54th Street in hopes of finding Grubb.

Police have received several reports from neighbors saying they saw Grubb. One neighbor even told police that the escapee was hiding in bushes and appeared intoxicated.
