COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) -- The annual "Family Day in the Park" was held Saturday afternoon. Guests and vendors packed Cooper Creek Park for a day full of fun.

The free event kicked off at noon and wrapped up a little after 5:00 p.m.

Thousands of people showed up at Cooper Creek Park for a day of food, fun, and live music. Davis Broadcasting hosted the day's event and Foxie 105 disk jockeys hosted contests and introduced an array of live musical acts.

A variety of vendors attended the event. Everything from selling snacks to registering guests to vote.

Police, though, were concerned about security, but luckily, there were no reported incidents.

Police say increased security kept traffic to a minimum and people were able to enjoy themselves more. Major Julius Graham said, "My hope for today is that everyone who attends has a great time and the ones who do not attend wish they were here as well. Hopefully we'll have a safe and fun event for everyone who comes."

Major Graham said that last year approximately 18,000 people attended, and based on the crowds earlier Saturday afternoon, he has no doubt those numbers were met or even exceeded.
