Russell County and Smiths Station Getting Public Transportation

June 30, 2008

FORT MITCHELL, Ala.  (WXTX) -- If you have a hard time getting around Russell County, it's about to get easier, thanks to an expansion of the public transit system.  County Commissioners heard first-hand last week how the transit system will make runs to grocery stores, doctors' offices and into the city limits of Phenix City, with a connector route to Lee County.

The transit system will run Monday thru Friday.

Bus Service Schedule

Monday -  Pittsview and Seale

Tuesday - Bleeker and Smiths Station

Wednesday - Hurtsboro, Hatchachubee, and Seale

Thursday -  Crawford and Ladonia

Friday - Fort Mitchell

The bus fares will range from two to six dollars depending on how far you live from the Russell County Courthouse.

They hope to have the new system in operation by September 29th.  The transit system is open to anyone and you can also purchase fare cards.  If you would like more information you can call toll-free to the transit system at 1-877-743-3739.
