After more than 20 years reporting and anchoring the news at stations and news outlets like WKYC in Cleveland, BET and WXIA in Atlanta.

Gauthier, who is a Georgia native from Waverly Hall, comes to WTVM News Leader 9 from WKYC Channel 3 News in Cleveland. Her experience is extensive with national and local news coverage on her resume.

Gauthier joined BET in 2000 as the network launched its nightly newscast. She started out as the Chief National Correspondent for the show, and later was promoted to primary Anchor for the national newscast.

In 2002, Barbara left the Washington D.C. office and became the Southeast Bureau Chief for thenetwork providing reports for BET Nightly News and CBS News from the Atlanta area.

Prior to joining BET, Gauthier served as Weekend Anchor and Reporter for WXIA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia. She joined the station during the 1996 Olympic Games.

Gauthier's broadcast experience includes work as Morning Anchor at KOCO TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she received numerous awards and recognitions for her reporting during the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Barbara has also worked at television and radio stations in Hartford, Connecticut, Dallas, Texas and Stamford, Connecticut.

Barbara has earned several media honors during her career, including two National Association of Black Journalists awards, and an Emmy Award, all for Outstanding Reporting.

A graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, Barbara received her Bachelor's Degree in Communications.

Q&A

Who's one of your biggest inspirations?

My family inspires me.  My mother has always been a hard worker and sacrificed so much so her children could achieve their dreams.  My siblings, five sisters and brother are all hard working and have good hearts.  My husband dreams big and believes in me.  I aspire to be like them and strive to make them proud.

Who would be your dream interview?

Since we're dreaming I would have loved to have interviewed Martin Luther King Junior when he was alive... Now, I'd have to say Nelson Mandela and/or Denzel Washington.

What's your favorite food?

A good, old fashioned, juicy cheeseburger and fries. For desert, butter pecan ice cream.

What is your favorite day of the week?

Saturday - I love sleeping in.
