COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM)-- Mayor Jim Wetherington's office has confirmed that Michael Registe has been captured and arrested.

The Mayor was informed by Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren of the arrest on Wednesday.

He was captured by a swat team in the island of St. Maarten around 11:10 a.m.

Registe has been on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List for the past month for the double murder of Columbus State students, Randy Newton and Bryan Kilgore.

At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Police thanked the media for aiding in the capture of Michael Registe.  They say media exposure on local news, America's Most Wanted and Good Morning America led to numerous tips from the public. Those tips helped investigators pinpoint Registe's whereabouts.
