PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (WTVM) - Around 11:30 a.m. eastern time, accused murdered Michael Registe was taken by St. Maarten Police to the court house in Philipsburg. He was seen by eyewitnesses in handcuffs being led in by police.
During the hearing, no one is allowed to go in or out of the courthouse.
Registe's case and the evidence against him will be heard by the judge. It's up to the judge to decide if detention is warranted.
This will be his first hearing since being captured two days ago, following a 13-month manhunt.
Registe is accused of killing two Columbus men, a crime punishable by death.
That won't happen, because the Dutch government does not allow extradition if the death penalty applies.
We'll have more on today's hearing beginning at 5:00 p.m. on News Leader 9.
