COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - As a partner in education with Fox Elementary school, the Brookstone Cougars are doing their best to help out younger students.

The Servant Leadership Program at Brookstone High School sends students into younger classrooms at their school and Fox Elementary.

The servant leadership director, Cindy Sparks said, "We have reading buddies, math buddies, they work on problem solving and word problems and then we have two high school students who go to Fox to teach recorder to chorus students there."

Fox Elementary School student Jarvhon said, "It's phenomenal. I like that they pay attention to the community and every kid needs to know how to play an instrument. It could be one of their hidden talents."

Not only are the kids benefiting, but the student mentors are rewarded as well. A participant of the Athletes in the Classroom program Austin Ball said, "I just feel like the kids should know what's going on above them, what it's like to have an older mentor above them."

"It's amazing what it does for our students for them to realize that they can form relationships with other students and help with reading or math or to just have a big buddy or mentor," added Sparks.
