Working Poor Taxes

Oct. 29, 2008

Columbus, Ga. (WTVM)--A new report names Georgia and Alabama on a list of 18 states that taxed working poor families further into poverty last year.

The report by  the Washington-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities released Wednesday examines 42 states that collect income taxes.

In the 18 states the threshold for two-parent families of four to begin owing taxes was below the 2007 poverty line.

The report says remaining states as well as the federal government do not tax working poor families.
