MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A shocking new twist in the Brent Springford murder case Tuesday as WSFA 12 News learned that Springford, who is accused of murdering his parents in Montgomery on Thanksgiving Day 2004, has pleaded guilty to the crime.

After four years of being behind bars Springford pleaded guilty Tuesday to all five counts against him including robbery and the double murder of his mother and father.

Springford spent most of his time in solitary confinement. A few months ago he went for a mental competency exam and the results indicated he was capable of standing trial.

His attorneys say they have been negotiating this plea agreement for weeks and that lead to the judge agreeing to give Springford life without parole.

Because this is a Capital Murder case, Springford must still have a trial.

That's scheduled for December 3rd, though it will be an abbreviated trial.

WSFA 12 News will have much more on this breaking news as it becomes available.
