COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A chain of Georgia banks has closed as a result of the slow economy.

The First Georgia Community Bank was closed on Friday becoming the 23rd bank to fail in the financial crisis.

The four branches of the Jackson, Georgia based bank reopened today as United Banks.

Officials at the First Georgia Banking Company in Columbus want to ensure their customers that they are in no way affiliated with First Georgia Community Bank and are not in danger of closing.
