Columbus City Council

Dec. 8, 2008

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Columbus City Council met Tuesday and found themselves voting on some changes and giving recognition those who have made changes in the community.

Columbus City Council has approved the changes to their scheduled meeting times and days. Even though council will be holding less meetings, members say their workload will remain the same.

Under the new schedule the first meeting of every month will focus only on proclamations. Meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month will have a regular agenda. Council will have off the third week and have a work session on months that have a fifth Tuesday. This new schedule will become effective January 1st.

City Council also took the time to recognize an outstanding business in the area.

Buffalo Rock Bottling Company has been named "Bottler of the Year" and received the Donald M. Kendall award in recognition of their work. The Columbus company is among 14 distribution centers in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

And City Council proclaimed that congratulations are in order for Columbus High School's cheerleading squad.

Last month the group won the class AAA 2008 Georgia High School Association Cheerleading Championship. Tuesday, the squad was honored by Columbus City Council.
