AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -  It's not long before people will be toasting to the New Year.  For those celebrating in Auburn, a towing service will be there to ensure a safe start to 2009.

As drinking establishments prepare for one of their busiest times of the year, they have a lot of things on their minds.  One of them is getting people home safely.  "The hard thing for some people is that a lot of them don't go out until New Year's or big holidays.  They have to be more careful," Daniel Grider, Bar Owner said.

"It's definitely the most dangerous time to be on the road because people are partying and drinking" Michael Ponder, Tiger Tire and Auto said.  Tiger Tire and Auto is providing free towing to people living in Auburn who may become too impaired to drive home.

"It's basically where we volunteer our equipment and our services to keep the roadways safe on New Year's Eve," Ponder said.  Triple A has provided the service known as Tow-for-Life for years, but it's the first year this towing service has jumped on board.

"All they need to do is call 1-800-Triple-A and its free of charge to any Triple A members or non-members," Ponder said.  Bar tenders say they plan to encourage the service so that everyone will have a safe start to their new year. "Any program that helps get people home safe, no matter what time of the year it is - is a great thing and we'll definitely support it and get the word out to everybody," Grider said.
