AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Residents of the Websters Crossing Mobile Home Park in Auburn say the sound of gunshots forced them out of their beds early Saturday morning.
When police got there, they found two women with gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to the East Alabama Medical Center. One of the women, 22 year-old Asia Scott was pronounced dead in the ER a short time later. The other woman, 20 year-old Cierra Cobb remains in stable condition.
Public Information Officer Captain Tom Sofer says it appears the incident started out as a verbal altercation and escalated from there. Police are releasing very few details about the shooting at this point in their investigation but they say they do have a suspect in their sights.
Assistant Chief Tommy Dawson tells News Leader 9 they are looking for 25-year-old David Pitts from Loachapoka, Alabama.
Residents of the mobile home park say the deceased, Asia Scott, lived at Websters Crossing with her mother and we're told the other victim was a former resident who had been evicted. The suspect, they say, was visiting a relative who lives there. Neighbors tell us Pitts and the women had all been out at a club and when they came back, the two women started arguing. Pitt tried to break them up and when he couldn't, residents say, he went to his trunk, got out a gun and started shooting.
Anyone with information about David Pitts is asked to call 911.
Auburn Police say this is their first murder of the year. Websters Crossing Mobile Home Park is behind the Auburn Industrial Park off Webster Road, only a few miles from Auburn University's campus.
