Former City Manager Files Claim Against Phenix City

January 6, 2009

PHENIX CITY, Ala.  (WTVM) -- Former City Manager Bubba Roberts has filed a claim against Phenix City.

You may remember Roberts was let go in November 2008 when the new council took office.  The claim states, "Roberts is seeking $194, 483 for lost salary and other damages relative to the retaliatory discharge of Mr. Roberts as City Manager."

City Attorney James Graham recommended the city council deny the claim.  In a unanimous vote Tuesday they did just that and they aren't commenting on the issue.

The mayor asked us to speak to the city attorney.  He declined to comment, but gave us a copy of the claim.  In a phone call to Former City Manager Bubba Roberts he declined to talk about the claim.

All the mayor would say is the city council is responsible for hiring the city manager, city clerk, city attorney, and city judge every 4 years.
