Father Surrenders, Allegedly Shot Son in Head

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WXTX) --Lanett Police have arrested and charged J.W. Lyman with domestic assault in the 1st degree. Police say he shot his own son, 19 year old Jonathan Lyman, in the head on New Year's Eve. The incident was reported after the injured teen called 9-1-1.

Lt. Johnny Wood spoke with our news team Wedneday about the arrest, "we received word from the Chambers County Detention Center that Mr. J.W. Lyman had reported to that location to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant".

Police issued a warrant for Lyman's arrest after taking witness testimony and analysing forensic and physical evidence. He will now undergo arraignment and a preliminary hearing. The case will then go to a grand jury.

At last check, Jonathan Lyman remains at the Columbus Medical Center in critical condition.
