Teacher Arrested for Drug Possession

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Columbus Police tells us a Marshall Middle School teacher is behind bars for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Thirty-six year-old Special Education teacher, Carolynn Mitchell, was arrested Sunday by narcotics officers at her home on Aaron Drive.   We're told Mitchell had taught in Columbus for 11 years.

She was arrested along with a man -- 35-year-old Eric Reynolds. We've not been enlightened on the relationship of the two individuals, but we do know that Reynolds has been charged with trafficking cocaine.

Narcotics officers seized over 40 grams of cocaine from the home and inside a car -- a street value of almost $4000.

Both are in the Muscogee County Jail.  Mitchell is expected to make her first court appearance Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

Muscogee County School District cannot tell us what disciplinary actions are being taken.
