Friends and Family Remember Millard Fuller

AMERICUS, GA (WXTX) -  Loving, kind, and impactful are just some of the words people used to described Millard Fuller.

"My dad was a man who loved God and his life was shaped by God. He lived and loved, putting God first and tried to make a difference in the world," said Fuller's son, Chris.

He was a millionaire by the age of 30. Fuller gave up his fortune and invested his life in Habitat for Humanity, a Christian charity that has provided over 300,000 houses for the less fortunate. Giving them the opportunity to become homeowners by using sweat equity and no-interest loans.

"Dad commonly gets the credit for starting Habitat for Humanity, but he'd be the first to tell you it wasn't him. He was just a vessel used by God to put the plan into action. It's something he felt God wanted him to do," added Fuller.

A room full of people honored his life on Tuesday. There were hugs to console and whispers of encouragement.

We even found Fuller's fishing buddy in the crowd.

"Millard and I have been best friends since 1985. We've built a lot of houses and gone through a lot of things. Millard exemplified the word compassion," said Jacob Battle.

And friends and family say that compassion was felt daily-- even when the 74-year-old philanthropist fell ill.

They tell us he'll always be remembered.

"His spirit, love and dedication and concern is still here," added Battle.
