COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Former Opelika Mayor D.B. Jones' wife Jean remembers their time together.
"We had 67 wonderful years," Jones said.
D.B. Jones leaves behind many family members in Opelika and many more who considered him family.
After working as an entrepreneur, D.B. Jones moved into the field of public service.
A no non-sense kind of man, Jones was wise beyond his years.
He served as mayor in Opelika for two terms.
"He said, "I've been here four years, they know what they're going to get. If they want it, they'll vote for me, if they don't, they won't." He didn't mind shooting you straight. Talking politics, he wouldn't campaign," said Jones' son, David.
Jones didn't seek out the limelight...he didn't view public office as celebrity status.
When he was asked for an opinion, he gave it, but never boasted to know every answer to every question...even though, he most likely did.
"He was sort of a quiet man, a strong man. He was a man of great integrity, a solid citizen and the type of person you would want representing you in any type of government," said current Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller.
Politics aside, Jones will be mostly be remembered as a family man.
He and Jean had three children.
